Why do dogs love us so much?

When I get home my dog is so glad to see me that she almost falls over trying to greet me. It’s a much warmer greeting than from the humans in the house! Is this unconditional love –or is she just thinking “Yay, the guy that feeds me is back! More food?”

We love our dogs and it’s great to feel the love is returned, but have you ever wondered why our dogs love us so much, and is it purely food motivated?

Collar or Harness – Which is better for your dog?

Your dog’s health should be the only concern when asking “is a collar or harness better for my dog?”

I hate to bring this up because it seems so obvious. Last evening while we out for our after-dinner jog/walk we were attacked! I wish I had prepared better to defend my dog against a vicious attack by an aggressive, unleashed dog.

It happened so fast! My dog was stopped and concentrating on peeing. I looked up and saw the neighbors dog, off the leash, about 100 feet away. She was unattended and just sniffing around, minding her own business. She had apparently escaped their loose-gated backyard again.

I looked 45 degrees to my left and saw the neighbors teenage son at their mailbox. I called out to him, saying that I saw his dog – and I pointed to the dog. My gaze turned back to the dog as I saw, with horror, that the dog was running full speed straight at us, and had closed most of the distance! Best ways to exercise with your dog

Up to 50% of dogs in the U.S. are overweight. Studies show that 70.9% of men and 61.9% of women are as well. Overweight dogs and people are both at risk for health problems, from arthritis to heart disease. So, this may be a challenge you and your pet can face and overcome together. Research shows that people who exercise with their dogs are more likely to stick to a fitness program. Continue reading “Best ways to exercise with your dog”

Dog Jog Exercise: Benefits and Tips

Other than the endorphins and pure enjoyment, there are a lot of reasons to jog with your dog . Here are a few:

  • Often a dog’s destructive behavior is a result of too much energy. Destructive behavior usually decreases when they get more exercise.
  • It will help to keep your pet at their appropriate weight. Most of us tend to spoil our dogs with random treats or treats as training rewards. These tend to be tasty but higher in calories.
  • Movement tones muscles and maintains muscle mass. Your dog will look and feel better.
  • With regular exercise comes regularity (if you know what I mean).
  • It’s a great bonding experience for you both
